RoboCup (www.robocup.org) is an international scientific initiative with the goal of advancing the state of the art of intelligent Robots, AI and Automation. Established in 1997, RoboCup originally chose to use soccer as a central topic of research, aiming at innovations to be applied for socially significant problems and industries, creating teams of fully autonomous, cooperative robots that exhibit advanced competitive behaviours and strategies. The idea then began that by 2050, inventors would be able to invent an automated robot that could compete against a team of World Cup champions using rules announced by FIFA. In order to achieve such objectives, the development has been divided into several fields, creating a network of cooperation to transfer and exchange of knowledge in the field of Robotics, AI and Automation between educational institutions of all levels, as well as various research agencies around the world. RoboCup has gained widespread attention and developed rapidly.
Presently, RoboCup has over 3,000 participants from 45 countries around the world each year and tends to increase continuously. Every year, the given problem will be adjusted to make it closer to the real-world practicality. The hosting country of RoboCup rotates around various continents. This year is the turn for Asia and Thailand receives the honor to host the event under the name RoboCup 2022, Bangkok, Thailand (2022.robocup.org).
